The Ohio State University’s Women & Philanthropy organization has selected Families Flourish to be one of it’s three 2020 grant recipients. The $50,000 grant, awarded by Women & Philanthropy, has been issued for the planning and evaluation of Families Flourish’s next phase: our demonstration project.
Currently, MTP is a pilot program, assisting 10 central Ohio families with relocation to higher opportunity neighborhoods, 3 years of rent subsidy, and life coaching for mothers and children. It is our hope to expand to a 100 family demonstration project to show our model is scale-able, sustainable, reproducible, and more robustly prove it’s effectiveness. Women & Philanthropy’s grant will help facilitate starting the next part of our journey to bring more equal access to good schools, safe neighborhoods, and healthy housing for low-wage working families in our area. The focus of the grant is to support research, publication of articles, and design of the demonstration project.
When asked why Families Flourish was one of the groups selected to receive it’s highly competitive grant, this is what Cathie Cline, chair of Women & Philanthropy’s Grant Committee had to say:
“Families Flourish was selected as one of our final grant submissions for 2020. The Grant Committee of Women & Philanthropy felt the interdepartmental approach used by OSU to evaluate Families Flourish was an excellent way to measure and monitor the project objectives. We are excited to learn about the fourth pilot year. It is hoped that the program will continue to expand and be used as a model for other communities beyond Columbus. Women & Philanthropy is pleased to be a part of Families Flourish.\”
